Jane document knowledge
What document preparation and retrieval mean for search, source scope, and answer quality.

Before you start
- Documents added to an authorized case or Library location.
Typical workflow
- 1
Add documents to the appropriate authorized location.
- 2
Wait for the file’s searchable state when the request depends on document text.
- 3
Choose the case, Library, folder, or selected-file scope Jane should use.
- 4
Review source coverage and add or remove material when the result is too broad or incomplete.
Processing readiness
Files can be available, processing, searchable, limited, or unreadable. Readiness affects what Jane can support from document text.
Retrieval scope
A firm library, case, or selected-file set defines the requested retrieval scope. Confirm the displayed sources and citations after each response; configured access restrictions still apply.
Source verification
Open the cited passage and review surrounding context before relying on a material fact, quotation, deadline, diagnosis, amount, or legal proposition.
Keep in mind
- Scanned, encrypted, damaged, or otherwise unreadable material can limit what Jane can retrieve from the file.
